OLS16- Blossom Details

It's time to highlight some of the details that caught the eyes of our design team members during May. Thanks to you our readers we had over fifty delightful entries to peruse and enjoy.

Heather's Details



Carina used a large stamp to cover most of the card front; by keeping the colour scheme limited she created a simple and elegant card.



Cornelia's shiny red highlights are gorgeous in the delicate lines of the monochrome lanterns.



I had to feature this clever card because Leslee shows that one layer does not have to mean flat. Not only does the fold catch the eye, so does the lovely pop of yellow amidst the black and white.

Susan's Details



Check out Janet's soft stamping that looks like watercolor, and those perfectly placed pearls!



Joan combined a loose, random layout with sketchy stylized flowers and leaves, and three words in a handwritten font of different sizes...a whimsical and very unified design!



Ren used white embossing on white card stock for lovely effect on her card!

Ardyth's Details



Sue's colourful blossoms feel joyful - the white space keeps the card feeling beautifully clean



This CAS card gives us the feeling of looking through the windows to a colourful spring day!




Gerrina's use of silhouettes and sponged panels is warm and sunny!



Karen's Details


 Cornelia's card took my breath away.  So simple but so elegant and done in a monochromatic style.

 
EunjoA's card was so pretty with the cascading roses.  I like the white detail she added to the centers.


Shery's card caught my eye with it's bright blooms and I love the way the sponging fades away at the top.

OLS16 Blossom

In honour of both the trees blossoming and our One Layer Simplicity Challenge founder Lateblossom (aka Susan Raihala) the theme for the May One Layer Simplicity challenge is 

BLOSSOM 

You need to make a one layer card featuring blossom of some sort. If perhaps you live far south of me and you aren't feeling the whole blossom vibe any more you might like to approach this challenge differently. The other inspiration for the BLOSSOM challenge is Lateblossom's blog, Simplicity. If you are inspired by one of Susan's cards (and how could you not be?) please link to it on your blog so we can all check it out.

I chose to stamp some blossoms and feature a 'blossom' sentiment on my one layer card. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

OLS Challenge Rules

l.  A one-layer card is defined as a single layer of cardstock folded in half.  No other layers of paper are allowed.
2.  Make a card inspired by BLOSSOM, either the kind on the trees or Lateblossom's blog. Remember to keep embellishments to a minimum.

OLS15- Blowin' in the Wind Details

Just another great month of wonderfully done one-layer wonders.  You really filled the gallery with lots of amazing cards featuring our Blowin' in the Wind theme.  I just love all the creativity of this challenge.

The members of the design team have called out a few cards with great details that especially relate to our theme.  It is always a difficult to chose just a few but we hope by doing so, we will inspire or help those who are new to stamping about making minimalist cards special.

Karen's Details


EunjoA's card is just stunning...love the feel of the petals blowing and of course the look of watercolour.

 

Vicki's card got my attention right away with the rich colours and the unique look she created.


Pam's card featured the perfect silhouette image to highlight the wind challenge on her sweet card.

Shirley captured the feeling of wind blown clothes with the angle of her images and the lovely little splatters.

Ashwini's brightly coloured kite stands out beautifully on her soft watercoloured background.

Lindsey's tiny petals falling are all that is needed to show movement on this lovely clean and simple card.

Ardyth's Details



Loli's  autumn colours and swirls create a card full of wistful movement!



Cornelia's card is full of dramatic colour and atmosphere!




Dora's really got the wind in her sails! I love how the white sail pops from the sponged background!

OLS15- Blowin' in the Wind

Welcome to the April OLS challenge.  Karen here, with this month's challenge.

The arrival of Spring has me thinking about warm, sunny, and windy days so that's your challenge this month:

Blowin' in the Wind

This month I challenge you to use show us wind on your card.  Use a straw to blow paint dropped onto your paper.  Stamp an image that shows something blowing in the wind.  How about splatters that go in a direction?  Have fun....play.  

For my card, I dropped some Bisters onto my paper (Bisters are a paint medium), sprayed with a generous amount of water and then used a straw to blow the ink around on my card.  
 Don't forget to keep it ONE LAYER!

OLS14 Details

What a great collection of Words, Words, Words cards! Thanks so much to all who entered the March challenge. I love how so many of you first thought it would be hard, but once you let your creativity flow, you came up with some wonderful cards! We hope you'll come back April 1st for a brand new, awesome one-layer challenge.

Because one-layer cards are all about those special little details, members of the Design Team have called out cards with great details. It's always hard for us to select just a few cards for our Details posts each month...but we hope this will help people who are new to CAS or new to stamping learn about how to make these minimalist cards special!

Heather's Details

Ingrid's card is eyecatching because of that beautiful panel of blended colour. The small white space with black words provide a contrast which really stands out.


Sherrie has caught the eye with colour and with movement in the wavy extensions on the word hello.


LesLee has used a classic highlihgting technique to make an impact; use one pop of colour in the midst of an otherwise neutral colour scheme.

Karin added such an elegance to her card with the embossing and the font on her stamped sentiment.



Violet's stamping sure caught my eye on this great card...well done.



Sandie did such a great job at really pulling all your interest to her sentiment with great colour!

Susan's Details

Ashwini's use of bright colors and black to make the word pop is simply awesome!



Kimberly created a coffee-themed fabulousness with a shaped word collage. Love the unity of this design.



Karen used color very effectively with her hot pink focal point and gray word border. The circles on the font of the focal point also add interest to an otherwise very "straight-line" card.

Ardyth's Details

Karin's use of text on a 'brick wall' has a modern, edgy feel! Great use of texture to emphasize the message!



Kymona used repetition of her sentiment to ensure that the card's recipient gets the message!



I love the way Sandra created a frame for her sentiment by using simple lines.

OLS14: Words, Words, Words

The March challenge is brought to you courtesy of William Shakespeare and that indecisive Danish prince Hamlet. When the pompous Polonius asks Hamlet what he's reading, Hamlet replies, "Words, words, words."

Your challenge for March is to use ONLY WORD STAMPS on your card! That means no flowers, no background stamps, no image stamps of any kind. Here's your chance to put those word stamps to good use...obscure quotations, oddly inapplicable words, your favorite words, happy words, sympathetic words, sarcastic words, whatever. As long as the stamp just prints words!

If you really want to use a lot of words all at once...make a word collage!

Now, I'm super-CAS and just put words on plain white card stock, but you should feel free to use any sort of technique to create backgrounds for your word stamps...as long as those techniques don't require actual stamps. For instance, you could ink up a bare acrylic block, spritz it with water, and create a water-color-y block background that way. You could spritz your one-layer card with any one of the variety of spray colors, you could use a brush or sponge to apply color, you could use a stencil and sponge...just NO STAMPS except word stamps.

A Friendly Reminder: This challenge is first and foremost a ONE-LAYER challenge. Please make sure your card doesn't have layers before linking it up. Thanks for observing this rule!

OLS13 - Details

Thanks so much to all of you who took time to play along with our "You Blend" challenge. There are so many fabulous details to choose from that the DT has had trouble narrowing our Details post to just a few.

Susan's Picks:

Kesnija used gold spray to unite her gold-embossed sentiment and her pretty pink stenciled frame.




Maura used white embossing and three fab colors to create depth and interest on her lovely card. I also like how the black flower spills out onto the white.



Kimberly used such vivid color and white embossing to make this dramatic and pretty card. I love how the color bleeds up into the white.



Grá claims she made a mistake stamping her flowers, but she rescued it perfectly. Note the most excellent background, which she added freehand.

Ardyth's Details:

Ingrid's bold choice of colours makes this card really pop!



Karin's stunning watercolour butterfly is a perfect example of blending!



Marianne's dramatic night sky is given real perspective by her detailed frame!

Heather's Details

It is impressive how Maura's few blended colours give the forest such depth.



Lee Ann has created a dramatic image by placing contrasting colours side by side with a thin but bold black line to divide them.



Claire's beautifully blended and layered circles almost look as though they are floating across the the white background.

Ashwini's card really shows how motion can be created using watercolour inks.

 

Sarah Jay created this super cute and fun card...love the way she arranged them all into a heart.




Shirley created this beauty which looks like a watercolour garden.
