Such a beautiful gallery filled with 'green' goodness!

All your one-layer cards were so beautiful and well done and really showed how making a monochromatic card has such a great visual impact.

Thanks so very much to all our friends and followers that took on this challenge to make it such a success and for sharing you creativity here with us at OLS.

We've chosen a few cards to highlight that really caught our attention - we love the little details that make each card special and we so appreciate that everyone played along!

Karen's Details:

 

 Ashwini's card was so super cute with all the shades of green she used and the doodled lines.   

 

Karen's card caught my eye, love the symmetry and balance of it and the great strong visual look. 

 

 Mac Mable's card looks so wonderful with the white space peeking out from behind the greens and the way she stamped the sentiments on the stems.




Ardyth's Details:


Cornelia's use of this graphic stencil really makes this card look dimensional!


Carol's monochrome garden is fresh and fun!


Bev created amazing dimension with her masking and sponging!

 

Heather's Details:


Style's ink use a pretty ombre effect to add interest to an all over pattern


Mary painted a pretty watercolour panel as a background to her stamping-a great one layer trick.


Gail's perfect masking created a clean and classy decorative strip.


Susan's Details:



Karen pulled together a tight focal point with delightful enamel dots...one of which is black!




Loli created a beautiful vertical-designed watercolor background for her horizontal Irish sentiment, which made a lovely, balanced design.




Janet used one of my favorite sets in such a clever way...the uneven line of leaves, connected by watercolor wash, is simply fabulous!

OLS25 - Let Green 'March' In

Welcome to the OLS challenge for March.
Karen here as your OLS hostess this month.

When I think of March, I think of winter's end approaching, the garden starting to come alive, St. Patrick's Day and of course the colour green.  So, this month's theme for your one layer card will be:

 Let Green 'March' In
 Create a card using shades of green and one other neutral on your white card.

For my card, I masked a panel across the front of my cardstock, inked up my stamp by Fred B. Mullett using 2 shades of green Brushos diluted with water and stamped.  When that was dry, I rubbed green Distress ink along the edges to define the panel.  I removed the masks, added scored lines on either side and stamped my sentiment from Daisy Bucket.

OLS#25 RULES:

1.  A one-layer card is defined as a single layer of card stock folded in half. No other layers of paper allowed! 
2. Make a monochromatic card using just shades of green and one other neutral. Remember to keep embellishments to a minimum.

OLS24 - Details

Our month of friendship was a huge success! A gallery full of beautiful cards that truly show the versatility of one-layer goodness! Some very CAS, others full of rich detail and colour. We are truly thankful for you, our friends, and that you share your creativity with us here at OLS!

Michelle's simple, gorgeous card still has big impact by having one poppy in colour and the rest grey.


Susan's use of scoring adds interest without clutter!

Ashwini's card was stunning with the amazing shadowing she added to the background.









Bev T created this beauty with such a wonderful watercolour look that I just loved.

Sharon did an amazing job creating the illusion of dimension with masking, shadows, and color. I absolutely thought she was cheating and using layers!



Gerrina balanced the large and heavy script sentiment perfectly with a gorgeously dense and colorfully realistic scene. That's great CAS design work!

Heather's Details


Sandie's card is a simple but clever layout using the same stamp but a lighter shade to create the reflected image. Her second entry is stunning too.


Kristie's soft colour scheme is a subtle background for her bold black sentiment.

OLS24 - Friends

Welcome to February! Ardyth here, your OLS hostess this month. We wanted to let you know that we are now linking all of our posts to our new OLS Facebook page. Be sure to pop over and follow us for another way for you to stay in touch with OLS and see what's going on.

In honour of our new Facebook page, this month's theme will be Friends. Your one-layer card can use any colour, layout, technique, occasion, sentiment, but the word Friend (or friends, or friendship, you get the drift) must appear.

For my card, I used a partial sentiment from Neat & Tangled, and old YOU from my "unidentified stash"  and then created a mask using a die from MFT's BluePrints 25. I sponged the unmasked area using distress inks.

OLS23 - Details

Heather's Sky's the Limit Challenge produced such a great diversity of cards...both in theme and style! I love that so many took the challenge and made it their own with such great-looking cards and just one layer. So much creativity! Many thanks to everyone who participated.


We've chosen some details that really caught our attention - we love the little details that make each card special!

Susan's Details


Mac Mable combined crisp line stamping with a soft Brusho background for a lovely design anchored in a strong red focal point...and she finished the card with creative sentiment placement that works so well with the theme of the card.


Eun Ji Jung designed a sweet, soft "tea in the sky" card that uses layering of images, shading, and coloring to create amazing dimension and softness. I also like how she took tea to a whole new level that evokes nursery and dreams when combined with clouds and stars.





Karen Haman masked and used an embossing resist technique to create a soft constellation card that's out of this world! I particularly love the "ragged left edge" of her coloring that adds so much interest to the design. And all that white space makes me happy, too!



Karen's Details





Gail Townsend created such a fun card.  Love the few clouds she sponged into the background.  This would make such a super card for a guy.




Lindsey's snow card is so pretty with a bit of sparkle from using a Stella Wink pen.  I love the purity of this card and the way she coloured the snowflakes.



Shirley Bampton's butterfly card just has such a happy and uplifting feel.  Love the way those whimsical butterflies are watercoloured.


Ardyth's Details



I love how Jen's use of the upper portion of her card implies upward motion - very clever!



Lindsey's layered stamping adds depth and interest to her pretty snowflakes!



Foleysfriend's dramatic Northern Lights sky is allowed to be the focal point, by limiting the stamping.

OLS23 The Sky's the Limit

Welcome to a new year of challenges with One Layer Simplicity. We hope you had a delightful December and are ready for the challenge of making one layer cards.

I'm Heather Telford, a member of the One Layer Simplicity design team, and I am kicking off 2016 with the challenge to make The Sky's the Limit during January. I can think of two directions to take this challenge but you might think of more. I chose to feature the sky in my one layer card; the sky takes up over half my card in fact. You might choose to focus on the motivational nature of the phrase 'the sky's the limit' and make a card challenging the recipient to aim high in the coming year. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, just make sure it is one layer and keep embellishments at a minimum.

One Layer Simplicity

We will be taking a break for December, to allow our team to focus on family and friends.
